Cool Places

From Russia: It was interesting, after viewing other students blogs I thought a neat thing to do instead of just roaming and stumbling upon something cool it would be better to search for it on the map and see what came up. Russia was my first stop. I got into a few conversations, but not being fluent in Russian made it difficult. However finding a circus was awesome. It was nice being able to get on the rides and actually ride them rather than just see them.

Next stop Space: Well not really. I wanted to go to space, but it looks as if no one has built it yet. This was the next best thing I suppose. I was able to look at shuttles and such, also a UFO. This place was interesting and also had some interesting finds. Outside the UFO there was a link to this book via amazon Lightcraft Model LTI-20 Technical Manual : An Intriguing Preview of the 2050 Space Command's LTI-20 Lightcraft

Book Description
Based on today's physics and real engineering drawings, this technical manual presents the LTI-20 Lightcraft—a prototype spacecraft that would reduce launch costs for space travel by a thousand fold. The Lightcraft is designed for a hypothetical U.S. space mission in 2025, during which it would transport six to twelve space commandos halfway around the world for a covert mission before returning to the continental U.S. without refueling. This latest blueprint for cheaper space travel also includes a CD-ROM with videos of actual Lightcraft flights and computer animations of flights into orbit.

and also there was this: Thank you for your interest in the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives.

This building and all it contains is intended to be an inworld, self-guided, self-paced, visual tutorial of the workings of the Secondlife primitives editing interface. It is presented to you in the hope it will be useful, and will provide you with a thorough grounding in all aspects of building in SecondLife.

I should have read through this, but I was kind of rushing through trying to see what else I could find.

So this is Hell?: Maybe it kind of was, considering I bought something from a store there and now my SL avatar is bugged and I cannot fix it. I even contacted the creator, and they said there was nothing they can do, the bug has been around since 2004. Doesn't this make you think they should take their shit down and stop fucking people over with faulty buggy products? *ahem* assholes. So this is hell? I'm not impressed.

Second Life Follies

It feels like every time I get on my laptop to play second life, something goes wrong. This has increased my willingness to play and has caused me to almost avoid it completely. I don't know why but my laptop and my iMac get so bogged down by second life that my avatar does nothing. When I start walking, my avatar walks so slow that I feel like evolution from the human perspective, it will take forever to do accomplish the smallest thing. This is not fun what so ever. Even trying to finish this assignment makes doing anything hell.

I don't know what the problem is though? my CPU isn't running through the roof as it has done in the past when playing, is it possibly not enough RAM? I'm not sure but when playing it takes everything forEVER to render. And I mean literally. If my avatar is standing idle it takes everything around 5-10 minutes for the entire environment to render. This is a big pain in my ass.

The Explorer. I feel this is relatively accurate to my personality via gamer, and in life. It fits under both online persona and offline self. I'm quiet, but like friendship, good bonds. However as much as possible I always adventure and like to discover newer better things. I love to find the unseen and keep it hidden. Its always knowledge that I seek to gain. Part of the reason why it has taken me so long to graduate. I want to gain as much knowledge as possible before I have to leave. Though even after graduating I will still be seeking to explore more area of knowledge.

Presentation Day

This game is a little, well its graphic. I think giving the gamer the option to set up peace or set up war is nothing new in a game, but because it is applied to such a real life situation it has come up on the scale of it being just a game. The problem I see with this, this being giving the gamer an option is that most gamers, especially in the demographic of males are all about war and destruction in a game. I'm not too sure what the object of the game is, but it seems that it may not accomplish what it may be looking to, but I could be wrong. People actively seeing a video of real destruction of human life after they make a virtual decision may change their mind. Again, I'm not sure.

Beth's ideas are really interesting. The 2D news in 3D I liked a lot, the idea is a very good idea of how to change the news instead of it being so static.

There

There was an interesting Virtual World. It was a lot easier to just up and do things than Second Life was. Although I wasn't able to run it on a Mac, only PC it ran a bit slow, though this could have been just because of the PCs in the lab being a bit outdated and being on forever at a time. I enjoyed the lack of complexity of the characters. Everyone was simple and all looked relatively similar. In my time spent with There.com it was a lot easier to interact with people than it has been for me in Second Life. I found that right away people would talk to me instead of me having to chase them around, and also enjoyed that the people were very friendly as opposed to the cliques of Second Life. My strange encounter was making out, it was interesting. I was just walking around and a female character came up to me and asked if I wanted to sit down, then after sitting down she asked if I wanted to make out, very inviting? I think it took longer for her to tell me how to actually get my character to kiss her than the make out session itself.

Age was on thing that didn't even cross my mind, I assumed that everyone in there had to be at least 18 or older but it turned out that the person behind this character was a 15 year old girl, maybe this could have been why she was very open and willing to just kiss and flirt, because after I told her how old I was in real life, she started making out with another character after she told me I was too old. Even for on virtual game, I feel slightly used? Haha

There dotcom

Either fortunate, or unfortunate I have not been able to play this game. It is only for PCs (vista/xp/2000) and I do not have a PC any longer, only running two Macs.

Second Life

It took a long time but I was finally able to interact with someone in Second Life. I did have a brief interaction a few days ago, but the two other players didn't really interact with me, and I ended up using the term 'fag' to describe them and some how I ended up in a grey cube for about 5 minutes, which then turned into a globe for another 5 minutes. I am not sure if this is just how the game works, or if those two characters had some kind of virtual power to do so? Though seeing as how I was in the superhero palace, or what ever it is called does not surprise me.

Persona

For my virtual persona I would like to take on a cyberpunk. Maybe not so much in the department of being a hacker or anything of that nature, but the whole virtual persona makes me think of William Gibson's novels. This style I really enjoy, but its basically the glorification of a high-tech low life. Think almost matrix-esce, however not that much into that fanboy'ism but mainly the William Gibson style. As far as talents and phobias, I am not 100% sure on this.

#10

10. The EZ Chat was easy to use, but found it hard to interact directly with other characters, sometimes I would engage in an interaction with the EZ Chat and they would just be able to walk away, so this is a bit annoying. Teaming up to fight the cogs was interesting, but sometimes when I would have two cogs fighting my character it was very hard to get help from other characters running around so I would have to run instead of finishing a battle.

9. What breaks this is the trolley game play, also fighting with a cog, and sometimes the directional keys do not co-inside the exact movements of the character, sometimes the character gets stuck.

8. I feel that generally just walking around makes me feel like I am in the game, being able to explore and run around freely.

blog.suck

I don't know why I am having many issues with Blogger, I keep trying to customize the layout but it won't take the css and completely F's up what I'm trying to do. Oh well, I hate the way this always works out when it comes to coding stuff

Toon Down

So far I've spent about 4.5 hours in ToonTown building up my arsenal and feeling around the landscapes. Its been a bit frustrating. I'm trying to find some laugh house right now but I can't seem to find it. It says its located in ToonCentral, but I can't find it at all.
